Nothnagle Celebrates it's 60th Anniversary
On Thursday, March 20, 2008, nearly 500 agents and employees of Nothnagle Realtors convened to celebrate the company’s 60th Anniversary. The event commemorated this significant milestone and recognized 63 agents and four employees who have been with the company for 20 or more consecutive years. County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo presented the company with a joint Proclamation from her and County Executive Maggie Brooks in honor of the occasion.
John T. Nothnagle started the company with $400 saved from his job at Eastman Kodak. In 1949, sales totaled $396,740. In 1950, JTN surpassed the million dollar mark with $1.89 million in sales. By 1952, there were 90 sales agents and $7 million in sales that year.
Using photography as the principal sales medium, John T. Nothnagle took the unique concept of displaying photos of homes for sale in his “Gallery of Homes,” saving both consumers and himself time.
Today Nothnagle Realtors has over 700 agents and 120 employees. Annual sales volume for the past year totaled over $1.2 billion. Nothnagle Realtors is ranked the 46th largest broker in the United States by RealTrends, based on closed transaction sides.
Nothnagle Realtors has over 25% of all active listings currently on the market and sells 56% of all residential units as a percentage of the units in the Genesee Region Real Estate Information Services Multiple Listing Service (as of 3/08).
Maggie Brooks Proclaims Nothnagle Realtor Day
PROCLAMATION FROM THE OFFICE OF MONROE COUNTY EXECUTIVE MAGGIE BROOKS AND THE
OFFICE OF MONROE COUNTY CLERK CHERYL DINOLFO:
John T. Nothnagle founded Nothnagle Realtors in 1948 with an initial
investment of $400 saved from his job at Eastman Kodak. His
innovative marketing strategy enabled him to launch a real estate
business that offered prospective home buyers a comfortable and
convenient experience where they could view listed properties in a
home-like office setting. In 1950, Nothnagle Realtors opened its first "Gallery of Homes" in the Granite Building in Downtown Rochester.
Starting out with one local branch, Nothnagle Realtors has grown over
the past 60 years and now has 22 branches that service a seven county
area. Today, Nothnagle Realtors is the largest realty firm in
the Greater Rochester area.
Since its establishment, Nothnagle Realtors has upheld a strong
commitment to its clients. Not only does the firm keep pace with the
ever-changing housing market, Nothnagle Realtors makes getting to
know its clients, industry, and competitors a top priority. It is this
commitment to excellence that makes Nothnagle Realtors a regionally
recognized company and industry innovator.
THEREFORE, We, Maggie Brooks, Monroe County Executive, and
Cheryl Dinolfo, Monroe County Clerk, do hereby proclaim
Thursday, March 20, 2008 to be NOTHNAGLE REALTORS DAY
in Monroe County, and congratulate Nothnagle and its employees as
they celebrate the firm's 60 years in business.

Shepherd Home Fourth Annual Spring Gala Dinner Dance and On-line Auction Fundraisers
Saturday, 04/26/2008, 6:00 pm
Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Penfield Country Club. The Gala and auction are key fundraisers for the Shepherd Home, a non-profit comfort care facility for the terminally ill that operates under the “Hospice Care” philosophy. Shepherd Home provides its services at no cost to its residents and without any reimbursement from insurance companies or Medicare, so it relies heavily on community support. Generous sponsorship from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Dominion Transmission, MRB Group, and Baker Commodities help make this year’s Gala possible.
The Gala begins with cocktails at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner, a live auction, and dancing. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Penfield resident and WROC-TV Channel 8 Sports Director John Kucko. Dance music will be performed by the band Nostalgic Reunion.
In addition to the live auction at the Gala, Shepherd Home is running an on-line auction open to anyone from March 24 to April 20 at www.shepherdhome.cmarket.com. Donations for both the live and on-line auctions are still being accepted.
Information about purchasing tickets, donating or bidding on items for the auction, sponsorship opportunities, and volunteering are available at Shepherd Home’s website: www.shepherdhome.org or by calling Kathy Averill, Gala Co-Chairwoman, at 585-704-5241.

Seeking Participants for PBA's Annual Penfield in Bloom
Soon we will be initiating our annual Penfield in Bloom program. Penfield in Bloom is a community project that the PBA works in conjunction with the Town of Penfield to maintain roughly 15 small gardens at major intersections within the Town. Members and volunteers are encouraged to revitalize and maintain these gardens. Each garden includes a sign noting the PBA and the volunteer organization or group of people chartered to maintain the garden.
The PBA Board of Directors is currently seeking volunteers as well as a PBA member(s) to chair and manage the program. If you are interested in participating in the Penfield in Bloom program, please email us or contact Sam Delucia at 734-4889 as soon as possible.
Reduced Democrat & Chronicle Advertising Rates Available For PBA Members!
The PBA has developed a valuable reduced rate-advertising program for members and we want your feedback. Here are the details of the program:
The PBA will run one full page, full color ad in the Our Towns section (Northeast Area) of the D&C on the last Wednesday of the month. In addition, the same page will appear in the Neighbors section on Friday of that same week. This advertising page will be an opportunity for members to place their full color ad on the page for only $150 per week! This means your ad will appear twice that week, reaching over 80,000 potential residents and businesses throughout the Northeast area, in full color, for just $150.
The same full color ad running one time in the D&C would cost roughly $301.50 for a non-contract advertiser. Those with a contract would have to run the ad for four consecutive weeks at a cost of $199 per ad. $796.00 total.
Each individual ad size is 3.375” x 4.25” and will only appear with other PBA members.
Please email diane@threshcreative.com and let her know if you would be interested in this program. We’ll only proceed if we find that members would like to participate so your opinion is very valuable. We think this is a great opportunity for our members. What do you think?

Members Gain New Insights About Unshackle Upstate At March Meeting
“Unshackle Upstate is working to change things in Albany because New York is the second most expensive state to do business in. Because our communities are handcuffed by state policies that don't work here. And most importantly, because our people want to come home.” This was the strong message delivered by Sandy Parker, President of the Rochester Business Alliance, at PBA’s March 5th meeting.
PBA members had an opportunity to learn more about Unshackle Upstate’s initiatives and to ask Sandy questions and discuss concerns. The coalition now represents over 65 Upstate businesses and trade organizations from all across Upstate New York with one goal: To achieve reforms in Albany that make Upstate a stronger place to do business. Download a summary report and the 2008 Agenda to learn more.

Time for
Some Financial
Spring
Cleaning?
by Curt Regruit - Edward Jones
You may or may not engage in many of the typical activities of “spring cleaning” — un-cluttering the attic, reorganizing your closets, touching up the paint, etc. — but you can almost certainly benefit from “sprucing up” your financial situation.
As your survey your financial landscape, what areas might you want to tidy up? Here are a few suggestions:
• Clear your portfolio of “redundant” investments. Over time, you may have built a sizable investment portfolio. But if you have too many investments that look alike, you may actually be hindering your progress toward your goals. After all, if you own a dozen stocks of companies in the same industry, they’re likely to be buffeted by the same economic forces. Look for opportunities to replace some of these “redundancies” with different types of securities, taking into account your risk tolerance and time horizon.
• Organize your financial records. If you’re like those of us who file our taxes at the last minute, now is the perfect time to organize your financial records, because you’ve probably got them close at hand. And it’s not just a matter of having your brokerage and 401(k) statements in nice, neat piles. Once you’ve got these documents together, you might see opportunities to consolidate some of your accounts. For example, you may have established IRAs with different banks and financial services companies, By moving them to one provider, and possibly rolling a previous employer’s 401(k) into an IRA, you could save some fees and reduce your paperwork, but, more importantly, you may find that such a move actually helps you better manage your investments. You’ll know exactly where your money is going, and it will be easier to follow a single investment strategy. Also, with all your IRAs in one place, it will be much easier for you to manage the required minimum distributions you must start taking when you turn 70-1⁄2. (These distributions are not required for Roth IRAs.)
• Review your systematic investments. Many years ago, you might have started systematically moving money from your checking account into an investment. But perhaps the circumstances of your life have changed and this money could be better used elsewhere. Scrutinize your systematic investments to see if they still make sense for you.
• Check your beneficiaries. Beneficiary designations on financial documents — insurance policies, IRAs, 401(k)s, etc. — are extremely important, because they supersede even the instructions in your will. Over time, your family situation may have changed through death, divorce, remarriage or the birth of children, so you should periodically review all your beneficiary designations.
• Examine your insurance coverage. When you have a young family, you need a certain amount of life insurance coverage to provide for some major expenses — such as your mortgage, college for your kids or perhaps some retirement funds for your spouse. But when your children have grown, your mortgage is paid and your spouse has decades’ worth of retirement savings, your insurance needs may change considerably. At the same time, you may find other uses for insurance.
Take some time to review your insurance coverage with your financial advisor.
By following these “spring cleaning” suggestions, you can help put your financial house in order for the seasons to follow. Take action soon.
