It all started with Perkins Swim Club, followed by the Pre-school program called Fit By Five, Inc. then Child Fitness, Inc. and lastly Senior Fitness, Inc. A cheerful, bright reception area, with a comfortable waiting area welcomes you to The Doggie Salon. Even though there is rarely a wait for pet's pickup, tea and hot chocolate are always available. Our facility is set up to allow very large or mature dogs that would have a problem getting into or standing in the bathing tub, to be bathed in our new floor tub. And, our grooming areas are open to natural sunlight via glass partitions but are still separated enough so that each dog can have its own personal interaction with his or her groomer and not be distracted by other dogs that may be in our facility at the same time.

George Ramell graduated from the Rochester Institute of Dog Grooming School in Henrietta. After graduation he worked side by side with his daughter Nicole, who started the Doggie Salon at 1906 Penfield Road in 1999, until she decided to start growing her family.

In 2007, shortly after George took ownership of the business, The Doggie Salon was moved from Penfield Road to its current location at 2115 Five Mile Line Road and has expanded to include additional groomers. George also has a second business sharpening and repairing clippers, clipper blades, dryers and scissors for other groomers and beauticians, and barbers.

Dollop Gourmet Cupcake Creations is officially open in the Four Corners Business District. Owner and Head Cupcake Heather Saffer looked at a few other neighboring towns before deciding on Penfield. She liked the Penfield Road spot best and is very pleased to be here. You can’t miss the location … just look for the hot pink window trim.

The business is open Thursday through Saturday from 11am-3pm and on Sunday from noon to 3pm. But as business picks up the hours will change. Check the web site for the latest hours of operation.

Cupcake creations are made-to-order at the store or you can pre-order for parties or events. There are a variety of cakes, fillings, frosting and toppings to mix-and-match. For example you can choose a red velvet cake, fill it with chocolate ganache and top with cream cheese frosting or pick a chocolate cake with Boston cream filling topped with chocolate frosting and cookie crumbles. There are many combinations to choose from depending what you are in the mood for. Heather encourages you to be creative.

Penfield Business Association Float Wins First Place

The Penfield Business Association won the blue ribbon for “Most Patriotic” float in the Penfield Independence Day Parade. This is the second year in a row we have taken home the top prize.

PBA board members Chris Herlong and Lynne Crawford spearheaded the design and construction of the float. Using PVC piping, chicken wire, monster mud, paper, paint, grapevine and some wooden supports, volunteers created a large American eagle with eaglets in a nest. Red, white and blue flowers surrounded the platform. PBA members and their families walked with the float to hand out 3000 American flags to the crowd. THANK YOU to all of our members who participated in the construction of the float, provided materials, and walked in the parade.  This would not have been possible without your help!

Partnership With Staples Gives PBA Members Discounts

The PBA has formed a new partnership with Staples that will provide cost savings and ordering convenience for members who wish to participate. The program, Staples Business Advantage is a free, opt-in program that is easy to set-up and use.

PBA President, Diane Thresh indicated that this program is another example of how the PBA continues its long-standing effort to help members improve their bottom line through networking, training, and valuable business relationships.

PBA members will initially save between 10 – 15% on their orders from a dedicated Staples Advantage web site. Members can order when convenient and all orders over $30.00 will be eligible for free, next business day shipping. Orders less than $30.00 will be delivered the next business day for a nominal charge. The combined purchasing power of all PBA members may potentially yield even greater discounts in the future.

New Businesses Now Open in Penfield

Many of you have probably already noticed or at least have read about several new businesses that have opened in Penfield over the past few months. In case you’ve missed what is happening … here is a brief recap.

Dollup Cupcake Creations – located next to the Hunting Horn on Penfield Road in the Four Corners District. This new bakery specializes in custom cupcakes. You can choose your own cake, filling, icing and topping flavors.

Joey’s Pasta House – located on Penfield Road in the former JC’s BBQ building. Recently extensively renovated and open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers homemade Italian dishes.

LuGia’s Ice Cream Truck – located at the corner of Liberty Street and Five Mile Line Road. LuGia’s is a neighborhood trademark in Spencerport and it’s exciting they have selected Penfield as their home on the East side of the County.

Le Bon Vie – “The Good Life” is now located on Penfield Road at the old Legends Grill location. Now open for lunch, visitors can order cuisine from six different cultures (French, Italian, Asian, Greek, Mediterranean, and French Quarter-Louisiana style) along with some local favorites. You can dine in or enjoy patio seating overlooking the garden.

Kakachi Japanese Restaurant – located next to Penfield Hardware on Penfield Road in the Four Corners District. Beautifully decorated inside with a fresh sushi bar, this new restaurant offers dine-in, take-out and delivery service.

What’s Ur Scoop – located at the old Abbott’s location in front of Tops in Panorama Plaza. This new ice cream shop has 16 flavors of hard and soft serve ice cream that you can have covered with homemade toppings. They also have ice cream treats for dogs.

What Else Is Happening?

• New construction at the old Kentucky Fried Chicken on Panorama Trail – A Verizon store is opening there soon.

• Chase Pitkin/Wegmans Plaza – The parking lot is being reconfigured and Lisa’s Liquors is expanding into the old Chase Pitkin space.

• Two new crosswalks have been added to Five Mile Line Road at the Four Corners District.

A fun-packed afternoon of great blues music, chili judging and beer sampling at the Penfield Amphitheater. The Scandals will open for Steve Grills and the Roadmasters, who bring their hard driving Chicago-style blues, along with special guest Joe Beard, to the stage. JW Dundee will be providing a line up of locally brewed beer for sampling, chili contestants will have hot chili available for judging, and event goers can just enjoy the day. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and to round out the 2010 Amphitheater program at Pen Rocks!
