The Waterfront Art Festival is celebrating its 36th year on July 25 & 26th in Canandaigua. It started out as a way for a few local artists to show and sell their work on the Canandaigua City Pier and has grown to the area’s best little fine art & crafts festival. It’s big enough at about 160 artisans for a great selection of high quality fine art and crafts in every price range but it’s small enough to easily walk and enjoy. The beautiful setting in Kershaw Park, on Lake Shore Drive right on the north shore of Canandaigua Lake, makes this Festival a pleasure to attend with cool lake breezes on a hot summer day.
The Festival offers a full food court with festival favorites, free offsite parking at CMAC on East Lake Road with a shuttle to and from the festival about every ½ hour, and entertainment in the Gazebo most of the day. It also offers beautiful commemorative posters featuring Canandaigua Lake scenes that have become collector items over the years. This year’s poster is a watercolor by long-time exhibitor artist Jan Mattee of Ohio.
The Festival has been owned and managed by Lynne Crawford of Penfield for the last 6 years. She has worked hard to maintain the quality of the Festival and add value for the visitors and the artists. She’s often said the Festival is just a huge project that brings 200+ people together over one weekend, outside in whatever the weather, to put together a wonderful shopping and visiting experience to thousands of visitors. No problem!
Canandaigua is a short 35 minute drive from Penfield. The Festival’s hours are 10 – 6 on Saturday and 10 – 5 on Sunday. There is a small admission charge of $3 with kids 12 & under free. Join us this year and see for yourself how fun it is to walk the beautiful park, visit with the artists, purchase fabulous artwork and know that you are supporting the arts and regional businesses.
