The Penfield Symphony Orchestra Presents “Of Drama, Hope, and Joy,”
a Holiday Concert, on December 4, 2023.
Penfield, NY: The Penfield Symphony Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the Rochester community for more than 60 years, will present a concert “Of Drama, Hope, and Joy,” on December 4, 2023, the second concert of the PSO’s 68th season. The concert will be led by guest conductor Evan Meccarello, the second of four finalist candidates for the PSO’s open Music Director position. Evan is an adjunct faculty member for conducting at Nazareth University and Artistic Director of Cordancia Chamber Orchestra. He is joined in this concert by the sought-after lyric soprano Kearstin Piper Brown.
The concert commences with Brahms’s Tragic Overture, almost a “symphony in one movement,” with its stark but dramatic development. Next comes the American premiere of Darvishi’s Only Violets Remain, a recent composition that is an expression of support for women of the world fighting for their rights. Closing our first half is Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Only two movements were completed, but Schubert's 8th symphony in B minor is a complete and essential part of the symphonic repertoire. Our festive second half consists of selections from Handel’s Messiah, Custer’s Chanukah Festival Overture, and Tyzik favorites The Twelve Gifts of Christmas and Holiday Sing-A-Long.
The concert will be held on December 4, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Penfield High School Auditorium, located at 25 High School Drive in Penfield, New York.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.penfieldsymphony.org, by phone at 585-872-0774, and at the door on the night of the concert. Tickets cost $15 for adults. For students of any age with a student ID, $1. Group rates are available for parties of six or more.
